OUR STORY

Hi! I'm Annie Teague, Henry’s “mom mom.” We have been given a treasure in our son. He is the strongest, most joyful human being I’ve ever known. Our parenting experience has looked a little different because Henry’s life is a little different. Henry has intractable epilepsy, level 3 autism, an scn1b gene anomaly, and is globally developmentally delayed. When you have a child who does not speak with words, it becomes your responsibility to be his voice. I needed to be a voice for Henry and spread awareness on behalf of the special needs community so Hearts for Henry began...as a blog. I couldn’t imagine a better way to soften hearts towards the special needs community than sharing glimpses of life with Henry. I believe getting to know Henry through the stories on our blog will cause you to fall in love with him. I also believe falling in love with Henry can set your heart on fire for the entire special needs community.

Spreading awareness is important, but I didn’t know how to turn awareness into action. I had a heart to serve but didn’t know how to advocate or educate outside of advocating specifically for my child. I didn't know how to start or where to direct my passion. That’s how our blog snowballed into a Christian nonprofit. Hearts for Henry shares opportunities for everyone to become an advocate. We create campaigns to help support special needs families. We give free calming kits to special students in Murfreesboro, Tn and its surrounding cities. Henry hosts interactive story times with his typically developing peers and gives them an encouraging environment to ask questions and learn about his special community. We also post opportunities to volunteer as we find them! At Hearts for Henry, you can help others through our H4H advocate programs, find resources, shop our awareness merch, and connect.

On a deeper, more personal note. Henry and the experiences he brings into our lives are gifts from the Heavenly Father. I’m convicted to steward those gifts thoughtfully and intentionally. With every small act of advocacy we take part in, and every breath we use to spread awareness, we want to glorify God. This, even more than an indescribable love for our son, is the driving force guiding Hearts for Henry.
